Sustainable Design

Green or sustainable design is the art of developing real world solutions that pursue the benefits of economic, social and environmental sustainability.

NieKo works hard to provide buildable solutions that follow the tenents of sustainable design.

Context Sensitive Solutions

Context Sensitive Solutions (CSS) is defined by the Federal Highway Administration as "a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach that involves all stakeholders to develop a transportation facility that fits its physical setting and preserves scenic, aesthetic, historic and environmental resources, while maintaining safety and mobility."

In the past most Engineering firms advocated cookiecutter structures to challenges in the field.

At NieKo, we believe that it is possible to design a custom structure that will result in a more appropriate field solution.

Cost

One of the myths associated with sustainable and CSS design is the concept of extra costs. While its true that costs can raise when following CSS guidelines this does not always have to be the case.

With careful planning and some out of the box thinking, structures can be designed to appropriately fit the landscape at a reasonable price.
