Keosauqua Bridge Replacement

The "X" bracing in the pictures is called lateral bracing. Its used to stop the steel girders from bending due to wind loading during construction. The girders are so long and deep that they could move up to 3 feet sideways in a strong wind. The lateral bracing reduces this possiblity to a few inches.
